Ear Muff

I had never considered before this day, that someone actually invented the ear muff..... but in 1877, at the ripe old age of 15 years [and with unusually large and sensitive ears] Chester Greenwood did just that. The first ear muff was made from wire, beaver fur and cloth...

And from there, it seems the only way was up, for both Chester and the Ear Muff, with the ear muff getting a make-over from the fashion world and hailed, in 1943 as having reached “the top rung of the fashion ladder.....” and a TIME Magazine front cover appearance.

and now, according to the New York Times, the ear muff is back...... hmmm... was it ever in question?

Paris at Sundance - never one to let a trend slip by

Chester was a busy guy and he also invented the wide bottom kettle, spring steel rake, shock absorber that is an ancestor to today's airplane-landing gear, a new type of spark plug, a simple donut hook, a folding bed, and bearings to keep wheels from wrenching off... see what happens when your ears are cosy!
