you're probably going to be seeing a lot of this logo if you're coming to the Aussie ski fields this winter .... on skis, on poles, on helmets and on jackets....[especially at Buller]
i ski for tommy.
Thomas Lewis Mathias was a Mt Buller Race Club athlete, a dedicated and talented skier, a beloved son and friend to many who at only 23 yrs old passed away due to malignant melanoma in January last year. His friends and ski buddies have joined forces with Dr Mark Cicchiello to raise money for the Victorian Melanoma Service at the Alfred Hospital and to create a lasting legacy in Tom's name.
Three of our national-level winter athletes are ambassadors for the program: Katya Crema represented Australia at the Vancouver Winter Olympics in skier-cross; Dan Portelli is a boarder-cross team member in Steamboat, Colorado; and Mike Rishworth is a national skier who was a great friend of Tom's.
Last year Mike organised the first Tom Mathias Memorial FIS Race that was held at Mt Buller and had a stellar line-up of international skiing talent compete in his name. I remember talking to Tom's mum Julie on that day and she noted how proud she was that there was a lasting legacy in his name.
Well team isft. just took that legacy to a whole new level !
Did you know that melanoma is the deadliest form of skin cancer ? it kills young people in their prime ? everyone is at risk, especially in Australia the "sunburnt country" where so much of our lifestyle revolves around swimming, surfing, sailing and sunbaking.
How excellent is it that isft. and it's ambassadors [and by that I mean EVERYONE who buys a sticker or a patch] are getting the message of prevention across in a totally cool way.....the younger generation gets branding and this brand looks good ! A sneaky source tells me that the TBR coaches will be wearing the patch proudly on their orange uniforms this year......and we all know that where TBR goes many others follow !
So I urge you to click on the site here and read about isft. and then exit through the gift shop.....here.....buying a few patches and stickers on the way. After all you don't want to be the only one on the slopes who doesn't know about isft.
